First book published by the Museum of Violin about the room of the museum called “Treasure trove” as it presents the ancient instruments originally developed by the great Cremonese makers, Stradivari, Francesco Rugeri, family Guarneri and Amati family.
Author of the book is the Maestro Fausto Cacciatori, Conservator of the instruments collections of the museum of violin. The author takes us to visit the treasures of violin making, first introducing the reader to the historical tradition of violin making in Cremona since the mid-sixteenth century by Andrea Amati, first among the Cremonese violin makers, then by Andrea Guarneri, founder of another historic Cremonese family of violin makers, finally by Antonio Stradivari, born in the years in which makers such as Amati, Guarneri, Rugeri were working in the city. Throughout the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries Cremona live the golden period of violin making tradition. This record will end during to the Austrian domination in the early eighteenth century. The European and international dimension of the Cremonese violin making will resume only in the last decades of the last century thanks to the school of violin making and the proliferation of workshops towns that still feed the ancient tradition of violin making.
The second chapter of the book is devoted to the birth of the collection of instruments available today in the Treasure Trove room and previously kept at the Town Hall of the city.
